Dr. Bryan Jeremy Arling obituary

Bryan Arling Obituary

Passed away peacefully on March 12, 2025 at home in Chevy Chase, MD, at 80 years old. He was born December 10, 1944, in St. Paul, Minnesota. Bryan studied at the University of Minnesota (1965) and Harvard Medical School (1969). He did an internship and residency at Stanford University, followed by two years with the U.S. Public Health Service. Bryan was committed to mentoring the next generation of physicians, serving as Chief Resident in Internal Medicine at the George Washington University Medical Center in 1973 and as a clinical professor of medicine at GW and Georgetown University throughout his career. Bryan began private practice in 1977, where his deep knowledge and compassion were recognized by his peers and patients, earning him the honor as a Top Doctor in the DC area for over 30 years. He served on the board of the Maret School in Washington, DC.

Bryan's love for his family was the cornerstone of his life, and he instilled in them the values of kindness, generosity, and scholarship. Bryan found joy in attending his children's sporting events, golfing, scuba diving, and travelling with his family. He is survived by his three children Elissa (George) Dolina, Jeremy (Michelle) Arling, and Timothy (Laura) Arling, eight grandchildren, and his sister Heather Arling Greenagel Ross. He was predeceased by his parents, Leonard and Marion Arling, his sister Pamela Arling Simmons, and his grandson Remy James Arling.

Those who knew Bryan will remember him as a loving, generous, and intelligent man. His presence was a gift to all who had the privilege of crossing his path, and his memory will continue to inspire and guide those he left behind.

There will be a visitation at Pumphrey Funeral Home, 7557 Wisconsin Avenue, Bethesda, MD on Sunday, March 30 from 3 to 6 p.m. A memorial service will be held at Chevy Chase United Methodist Church, 7001 Connecticut Avenue, Chevy Chase, MD on Monday, March 31 at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, Dr. Arling's family requests donations to George Washington University Medical Center's Internal Medicine Residency Education Fund [give.gwu.edu] be made in his name. I am saddened to learn of Doctor Arling´s passing. I was his patient from 1979-1990 when I moved to California. He was and still is the BEST doctor I have ever known. I knew he had retired but hoped he was still with us enjoying life. His passing has left a void.

I was Dr. Arling´s patient for almost twenty years when I lived in DC and I am saddened to learn of his passing. He was compassionate, thorough, thoughtful, and funny. It was obvious how much he cared for his patients. I left DC 26 years ago and I have yet to have a primary care physician as outstanding as he was. My condolences to his family.

Bryan was a favorite classmate at Miles Standish Grade School, Folwell Junior High, and Roosevelt High School, as well as a neighborhood friend. I remember one particular evening at his home when we played games and listened to a record of Bob Newhart telling about the driving instructor. Since we were most likely taking driving lessons at the time, it really amused us to the point of sore cheeks and ribs from laughing so hard. One of many fun evenings together with neighbor kids. Bryan was so smart that he had skipped a grade so he was the youngest in our RHS 1961 graduating class, of course graduating with honors. I´ve noticed that he has continued to contribute generously to RHS. He was a sterling example of a great man.

Dr. Arling was the first physician to listen to me, run tests, and diagnose the issue. I will always be grateful to him.
