He did a good job (as my navigator in the Navy). He came to our house a couple of times, and we had a great time.
Charles Clark, Jr., CDR, U.S. Navy, Ret.
So sorry for your loss. He was a fine gentleman and had an impressive career.

I was very sorry to see this. I got to know Carlos because I produced a video about the Fair Housing Act when I worked at Fannie Mae, and we interviewed him on camera about his role in securing the FHA's passage. Carlos welcomed me into his home, and we stayed in touch for a little bit after that. The video he appeared in is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mhSjCGiAXGY&t=1s
Carlos was a lovely person and a fierce civil rights advocate. I am lucky that I got to know him, and I'm sending his family my condolences.

Carlos C. Campbell was a true Rennaissance man - corporate director, pilot, actor, filmmaker, investor, activist, public servant - truly there was no sphere of life his talents did not touch and enrich. But his greatest role in life was to be for his daughter a loving father and for his compatriots a true friend. He helped all of us in so many ways. Rest in Peace, Dear Carlos!

A few decades ago Carlos burst into our lives.... and stayed! As he had regular business meetings in La Jolla we invited him to be with us at those times. He became an important member of our California family. He was an inspiration in his open kindness, and love of people. He was a "connector" and helped his friends and wanted them to know and like each other. He knew someone who made chocolate and he sent us samples. If a friend vacationed in the Caribbean he would make sure they picked up some special coffee for me. If a friend wrote a book he would send a copy to other friends. His network was large and crossed boundaries. What a friend he was!
As time went on he was there for our family events ... both happy and sad. Carlos was a great photographer and recorded them all.
As I think of him now I realize how extraordinary he was. I am sure other of his friends can recount his achievements in the world. They were many.
But for the Hendler family he was a great soul... an inspiration in his humanity. I feel the loss and my tears are a measure of the place he had in our lives. I can only be thankful that I have had the privilege of being his friend.
