Carol Allen Obituary

Carol Allen, of Pinetree Terrace, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on March 14, 2025.

Born in Columbus, Ohio to James and Gladys Anning, Carol was the daughter of a World War II fighter pilot with the famed "Flying Tigers" and spent her early years living in Japan. From age 11, she was raised in Lake Charles, Louisiana.

From a young age, she demonstrated a sharp intellect and tenacity for learning. In high school, she was a fierce debater, winning the Louisiana state championship in 1970 and was accepted into the Governor's Program for Gifted Children.

After graduating from University of Cincinnati Law School in 1978 she moved to the Washington, DC area where she built a distinguished career as an attorney for the Department of Commerce.

For the past 37 years, Carol called Lake Barcroft home. In retirement, she devoted herself to the causes she deeply cared about, actively engaging with the Fairfax Democrats and volunteering at polling stations.

Carol is survived by her husband, Geoffrey; her daughter, Christy; her son, Sam and her brother, Andy.

Friends are welcome to attend a celebration of her life, which will be held at 11 a.m. on April 12 at Sleepy Hollow United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Reading is Fundamental (RIF) literacy programme, honoring Carol's passion for reading.

Somehow, Carol and I were classmates from the 5th grade on in Lake Charles at Oak Park Elementary, in Junior High, LCHS, at LSU, and even LSU law school (for a year). She was intelligent, pretty, and mysteriously shy. She was an excellent debater and one of the smartest people in our class - or any other. We stayed in touch over the years but not enough. Your wonderful family is your legacy, Carol. My condolences to Geoff, Christy, Sam and brother Andy.

Carol,
I´ll miss your singing voice in our Silver Sneakers´ class. I can imagine you now singing with your band of angels. May God bless you and your family.

I volunteered with Carol on the Voter Protection team for the Fairfax Democrats. She was an incredibly kind, dedicated volunteer. I took over as chair of the committee a year ago when she stepped down and always appreciated her mentorship and willingness to provide guidance. I wish I could attend her services, but unfortunately have the flu and will not be able to attend. I hope her family and friends know how deeply she impacted her community.

I knew Carol through her work with the Fairfax County Democratic Committee. It seemed that Carol was always hard at work at one of the computers in the FCDC office every time I came in! Her work in election protection was extremely valuable to the Committee, and most of all to the voters. My deepest condolences to her family.

My deep condolences to Carol´s family. I worked with Carol for many years on voter protection and poll watching for the Fairfax County Democratic Committee (FCDC). She was a dedicated and tenacious volunteer as an inside pollwatcher at the Mason District Government Center for early voting for every election. She succeeded me and Kristin Cabral as a Co-Chair of the Election Law and Voter Protection Committee of FCDC. She was a good friend and neighbor in the Lake Barcroft community in Falls Church. She told me many stories of the time she lived in Louisiana and her worked on Capitol Hill and in Government. She will be missed greatly by me and many others.
