CATHERINE HANKS Obituary

Catherine Hartlett Hanks
Affectionately known as Katie to her many friends, died on October 27, 2021. Katie lived in Washington, DC, a city she loved. Born in Madison, Wisconsin, Katie attended school in Towson, Maryland and was a proud alumna of Goucher College. From there, she lived, worked and traveled the world, although she always found her way back to her beloved Washington, DC. A lover of the arts, she especially enjoyed volunteering at the Kennedy Center. Katie was an engaging story teller, a lover of jokes - both good and bad - and a loyal friend. She is survived by two sisters and a brother, Margy Gunderson of Los Angeles, CA; Mimi Hanks-Bell of Philadelphia and Sam Hanks of Los Angeles. Katie is also survived by three nephews, Bryan Huskisson, Colin Gunderson, and Brendan Bell, as well as her grand-nieces and nephews. Her brilliant smile, clever repartee, hearty laugh and passion for principled causes, her devoted friends and new adventures will be missed. A celebration of Katie's life will be held at a later date.

Katie was a joy to be with. She had an articulate presence that I'll never forget. Over many lunches in our networking group, the 99ers, she told stories of the human side of corporate compliance. We will miss you, Katie!

In loving memory of a wonderful person. I have known Katie as a manager, mentor and friend for over 25 years. Always thoughtful and always there for me with sound advice and a listening ear. Rest in peace Katie, and yes we will miss you, always!

Hello to Hanks family -
Katie hired me out of college in 1991 and we have been friends ever since including recent visits to DC and going to Kennedy Center for shows together. So many great memories of her. She had an infectious laugh, was always genuine and truly a great friend. She wanted to make humanity better in her own way.
