CECIL SCHMIDT Obituary
CECIL HENRY SCHMIDT, JR.
Cecil Henry Schmidt, Jr. of Burke, VA died unexpectedly yet peacefully on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 after a brief illness. Cecil was born in Natchez, MS on July 24, 1941, the oldest of seven children. Retired Naval aviator (AWCS), he served his country and family faithfully and well. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 36 years, Svanhild Tengesdal Schmidt, and three children, Cecil H. Schmidt III (Rachel), Monica Schmidt Skipper (David), Steffen Tengesdal (Erin) and four grandchildren, Claudia Tengesdal, Ansley Skipper, Austin Tengesdal, and Mena Schmidt. He is also survived by his siblings James B. Herrington, Sandra J. Massie, David M. Herrington, Rickey E. Herrington, and several nephews and a niece. Services are planned for Friday, January 18, 2019 at 1 p.m. at Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home. Burial service to be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please donate to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Wounded Warrior Project.

David and are are deeply saddened by Cecil's passing. We enjoyed spending time with him and his wife at the last reunion and was looking forward to seeing him again in Dayton. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this difficult time.

Chief Schmidt was a great Navy Chief -- he provided me lots of guidance about the Navy when I was a young LT in VP-60 --but we had fun and the squadron did great -- Fair Winds and following seas --Chief -- Capt Pat Peterson USN Ret
