CHARLENE MANN Obituary

CHARLENE MANN (Age 83)
Of Gambrills, MD passed away on Sunday, December 19, 2021. She was born in Pawnee, OK and moved to the Washington, DC area in the late 1950s. She began her career at American Security Bank in Washington, DC, where she met her husband, Norman Mann. They were married from 1960 and had four children. Her loving husband passed away in 2008. As their children grew older, she went back to work first in retail then working at the University of MD, College Park where she retired in 2000 as a highly regarded Scientific Typist in the Department of Meteorology. As a longtime resident of Hyattsville, MD, she was well known for making gingerbread houses, which she enjoyed along with her exemplary sewing, refinishing antique furniture, and reading. She volunteered at her children's school for many years serving in their PTA, as a substitute teacher, speech teacher, and especially sewing costumes for school plays. As one of the original residents of her Gambrills condo building, she enjoyed the friendships she made there and walks throughout the complex. Growing up in Oklahoma provided the foundation upon which her life was formed. She repeatedly said she'd had a long and good life. She was the devoted mother of Laura Mann, Norman F. Mann II (Lisa Beall), and Lisa "Missy" Reigel (Herb); proud and loving grandmother of Keenan Mann, Evan Baturin, Julia Shipley, Karen Failla (Geoff), Norman F. Mann III, Amanda Beall, Jake Beall, Amanda Reigel and Kyle Reigel; and great grandmother of three. She is also survived by a son-in-law, Bill Shipley; a sister, Vera Duncan; a sister-in-law, Alice Duncan; a sister-in-law, JoAnn Mann; a brother-in-law, Gary Smith; and many nieces and nephews. Her daughter, Teresa Shipley, predeceased her. As a final gesture of Charlene's unselfish life, she donated her body to science for the advancement of medical education and research, to provide a legacy for the improved health of future generations. No funeral service will be held, but a remembrance of her life will be held at a later date. Condolences for the family may be sent to Laura Mann. Donations of flowers may be sent to a hospital or convalescent center of your choice. Monetary donations may be sent to Maryland State of Anatomy Board, Bressler Research Bldg, Room B-026, 655 West Baltimore St, Baltimore, MD 21201-1559 or American Lung Association, 211 East Lombard St, Baltimore, MD 21202.

I am so sorry for your loss. Charlene was one of a kind. She and Norman were always so kind and welcoming. I'll always remember that about these two wonderful human beings. May she join Norman and may they both rest in peace eternally.
