Charles Friedman

Charles Friedman, a Holocaust survivor who was born in the German town of Jena and escaped to America with his family in 1941, died on April 7 at his home in Arlington, Virginia. He was 96.

Mr. Friedman had been married to fellow Holocaust survivor Lilli Meseritz Friedman, a Berlin native who also fled to the United States during the Second World War. The couple had been married for 67 years when Lilli died in early May 2019.

Mr. Friedman worked his way up from the retail sector to become a Buyer for Associated Chain Drug Stores, and later he was an executive mentor for small businesses with the New York Corporate Volunteers. He served in leadership positions in the Manhattan B'nai B'rith, and like his wife he was an active member of the Hebrew Tabernacle congregation in Washington Heights.

Mr. Friedman is survived by his son Alan and his wife Gabriella Carignani, by his daughter Anita and her husband Victor Amram, and by his grandsons Gabe and Alex Amram.

Funeral services are to be held at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon, April 11, 2023, at Cedar Park cemetery in Paramus, NJ.
