Dr. Cornelius Paul Frey

FREY, Dr. CORNELIUS PAUL (Age 90)

Of Venice, Florida, died Thursday, January 22, 2004. Dr. Frey was born on April 7, 1913 in New York City and had been a resident of Venice since 1996 coming from Easton, Maryland.

Dr. Frey was a undergraduate of Columbia University with a B.S. in 1940, he graduated from John Hopkins University School of Medicine in 1943, did internship at New Haven Hospital, Yale University in 1944. He did his residency in General Surgery at Maine General Hospital. While serving as Captain in the U.S. Army he was involved with All Surgical Training from 1944 until 1947. He worked at Emergency Hospital in Washington, DC and Reconstructive Hand Surgery at Roosevelt Hospital from 1947 until 1953. Dr. Frey was a general surgeon and plastic and reconstructive surgeon. He was associated with Washington Hospital Center, Children's Hospital and George Washington University Hospital. He was recognized by Board as having adequate, appropriate training. Been practicing such with no professional complications since 1949. Recognized locally as such. Currently Chief of Plastic Surgery at Washington Hospital Center, currently Associate Clinical Professor (Plastic Surgeon) at George Washington University Hospital. Member Washington D.C. Plastic Reconstructive Hand Surgery, Recognized Adequate Training Practicing Subspecialty since 1952. Member of American Society for Surgery of the Hand, Metropolitan D.C. Society for Surgery of the Hand. Consultant for Hand Surgery at Bethesda Naval Hospital and Walter Reed Army Hospital from 1955 until 1983. Dr. Frey was Team Doctor for the Washington Redskins from 1949-1953.

His father, Timothy S. Frey was a Lutheran Minister at Emanuel Lutheran Church at Ridgewood, Brooklyn, New York for many years.

Survivors include his wife, Linda S. Frey of Venice, FL; his son Neal J. Frey of Longview, Texas; his daughter, Joan L. F. Stratton of Lancaster, PA; his six grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. on Monday January 26, 2004 at Lakeside Lutheran Church, Venice, FL.
