DANIEL KOCH Obituary

KOCH DANIEL LOUIS KOCH Daniel Louis Koch, 59, of Potomac, Maryland, passed peacefully on Sunday, July 6, 2014, surrounded by his loving family. Danny was the son of Helen Koch and the late George W. Koch. He is survived by his adoring wife of 27 years, Patricia; their four beloved children, Reilly, K.C., Max and Jenna; and siblings, Jorie, P.C., Bobby, Monte, and Lucy. Danny also leaves his mother and father-in-law, Jenna and Tom; his sisters-in-law, Doro, Sandy, Heather, Beth, and Cathy; as well as his brothers-in-law, T.J. and Rob. He was blessed with 13 nieces and nephews and the best friends a man could ever have in one lifetime. Danny was born on March 18, 1955, in Cincinnati, Ohio, and was raised in Maryland. He attended the Primary Day School and the Landon School. Danny was a proud Terp, having graduated from the University of Maryland, and earned his MBA from the George Washington University. Upon graduation, Danny founded the original Old Fashioned Bakery Wagon, and working with his wife Patricia, grew this original concept into what is today PRFC, INC, a company that operates specialty, award-winning food concepts in airports. He was also a multi-unit franchisee of California Tortilla and served as the Chairman of the California Tortilla Franchise Advisory Council. Danny's love of family and friends was paramount. He was a talented golfer who truly loved the game and time spent with those with whom he played. Danny was an impressive craftsman who could build or repair anything that came his way. He was happiest spending time with those he loved, especially Sunday afternoons watching the Washington Redskins. All who had the privilege to know Danny will remember his generosity, kindness, strong work ethic, forgiving nature, unwavering loyalty, and sense of humor. Danny was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in December 2011. He battled his illness with the same courage, humility, and tenacity with which he lived his life. As a result, he defied all statistics and odds associated with his terminal cancer. A Mass celebrating Danny's life will be held on Friday, July 18, 2014, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, 9200 Kentsdale Drive, Potomac, MD 20854. Contributions can be made to the Daniel L. Koch Fund, 10220 River Road, Suite 204, Potomac, MD 20854, to help with medical expenses associated with Danny's treatment.

Dan and I were classmates and friends in fourth grade at Landon. He would come over to my house and one of our special treats was to each be given a bottle of coca-cola. What we really valued was the coke bottle caps because each had on its underside a small photo of a then-current Washington Redskin. We collected and traded them. It certainly was a time of innocence and joy.
It sounds like Danny kept faith with the Redskins and with so much more in his life.
