DANIEL LEVINE Obituary


DANIEL BERNARD LEVINE  
Of Silver Spring, MD, died peacefully in his sleep on April 29, 2014 at the age 88. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Faiga; children, Shaari and David (Teri) Levine; grandchildren, Joshua, Jesse, Dahlia, Lauren and Jeremy Levine. Daniel was employed for over 30 years with the U.S. Bureau of the Census where he rose to the rank of Deputy Director. Daniel also worked at Westat for more than 25 years up until the week he died. He received his BA in Economics from G.W. University and his M.S. in Economics from Columbia University. Daniel served as a Naval Pilot during WWII. Post WWII, his government career at the Census Bureau include the following commendations, Department of Commerce Silver and Gold Medals; as well as an appointment by President Carter to the rank of Meritorious Executive of the Senior Service. Funeral services will be held at Danzansky-Goldberg Funeral Home, Rockville, MD, Friday, May 2 at 11 a.m. Followed by interment at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery, Adelphi, MD. Shiva will be observed at the residence of his son, David Levine, Potomac, MD, Friday, May 2 through Thursday, May 8. Donations may be made to the Jewish National Fund.

I have had the privilege of working with Dan both at the Census Bureau (from 1965) and at Westat. He became my friend as well as a brilliant co-worker. He was instrumental in my receiving 2 professional honors. My condolences to the family.

Danny Levine was the first Zaide I knew - not a Grandpa, but a real Zaide to my G-d Children. He managed to be a master of both kindness and wisdom. I will miss him at the Levine mitzvoth of the future, because he was a strong presence at every one in the past. My condolences to all of you.
