Danny (Elmo) and I were teammates at BI. I was floored when I received word of his passing. I will always remember Danny for his quiet/calm demeanor during the games. Always an inspiration. Hell of a football player. After we graduated and moved on to college, we managed to stay in touch. We travelled to my families place in Cape May a few time on weekends or just met to have a beer when both of us were in town. I will always treasure those special times.
RIP, my friend.

So happy to hear from my brother Dan's friends and classmates. We--his sisters, nieces, and nephews--are missing him. He was the best brother and uncle anyone could ask for. We will be having a celebration of life mass for Dan this Friday, October 14, 2022, at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Arlington, VA. This is the parish where we grew up and practiced our faith. There will then be an interment of his ashes at Columbia Gardens Cemetery on Route 50 in Arlington, where our parents are buried. And, then followed by a reception at an Irish pub in the Crystal City area. Please feel free to join us. I can be reached at 561-635-1236 if you have any questions or need assistance. You are truly missed, my brother and Star Trek buddy. Love you always! Mary Smith Ali (one of the twins).

I was shocked when I learned Danny passed away. It saddened me, that this world lost his drive, kindness, and great smile. My family´s sincere condolences to Danny´s sisters, family and adult friends!! Y'all feel loss the deepest.

I was lucky to be Dan´s classmate for 12 years thanks to our parents putting us into catholic grade schools and High School together. Of course, we were altar boys half of those years (Tom and Pat too).
St. Rita´s Memories: Monsignor Gallagher´s cash rewards for Good Grades (1st dollar earned?), scouting, Bean-Bag football in church parking lot, baseball teams (St. Rita´s) and opponents (Warwick Village), Black knights football (Dan Smith MVP).
BI Memories: Special route bus rides to/from school, pea shooter exchanges, sports camps, practices, games ("Elmo" excelled). College prep courses and modular scheduling (Danny great study hall teammate), coat & tie dress code (right up Dan´s CPA alley). Conversations over "mystery meat" or spaghetti lunches. And those quick hallway hello´s and "how´s it going?" interchanges.
Then graduation and off to different universities and careers, only to catch up at some reunions. BTW, thanks Danny for asking to sit with us at our 25th reunion, I´m glad my wife met you too!!
For me, Dan Smith´s childhood life reminded me "there is a God". He grew his God given talents hundreds of times over. He was smart, kind, modest, friendly, and "a good kid". I was glad we were friends!
So "be with God" Danny Smith. You are missed and remembered!

Dan was a high school classmate of mine at Bishop Ireton High School in Alexandria Virginia. We played football together and shared some great experiences. He had a sly wit and great disposition. Always kind. He will be missed. He was the best of us.

So sorry to learn the world lost such a gentle, kind and generous soul. Though we didn´t see him these past few years knowing he was a phone call or email away was a comfort. He will be missed by so many. Sending a wish for peace to his family and friends. With love, L&K

Reminiscing about the 40+ years we knew Kahuna Tuna. Through all kinds of sports we stunk at, parties we excelled at, beach trips, hot tub cannonballs and squirt gun attacks our bonds grew and grew. Then our children adored him. Many years of cherished memories and friendships.
