Dara Afshar Obituary

Dr. Dara S. Afshar, 89, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 2, 2024, in Tampa, Florida, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife of sixty years Christa, his son Steven Afshar, and his daughters Touran Waters and Martina Reiss, and their families. Dr. Afshar practiced obstetrics and gynecology for 39 years, with privileges at Sibley Memorial Hospital, Georgetown University Hospital, and Holy Cross Hospital. He loved practicing medicine, and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends. A memorial service will be held in the Washington, DC area at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Lung Association.

Heartfelt condolences to the Afshar family. I am deeply saddened to hear of the best doctor ever, Dr. Afshar. For many years he was my doctor. He delivered my daughter (Kesi), and years later became her doctor. We loved Dr. Afshar, and he loved us. What a wonderful person he was. He was simply the best!!

I´m so deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Dr. Afshar. He was my employer thirty years ago. He was always kind, compassionate and respectful. He was also a supportive mentor to me as I pursued my career in nursing. On the day I graduated from my master´s program, though it had been many years since I´d seen Dr. Afshar, I thought of him. He exemplified all the qualities of an exceptional healthcare provider. He was the measure I´ve held every physician to in my career and what I strive towards in my own practice. My heartfelt condolences to Christa and family.

Dear Christa, Steven, Touran, Martina and family
My sincere condolences for your loss. I too am mourning for losing Uncle Dara, who was not only a kind man, but near and dear to my heart. He was there picking me at Amtrak station at sixteen, welcoming me to his lovely family and kept looking after me and later my sick dad. Uncle Dara took me to NYC for the first time when we saw the Rockettes at Radio City, rode with us at Busch Gardens and took me skiing. But most of all, what I liked me for his stories, his kindness and compassion.
I always had a home to go to on Thanksgivings, school holidays and he was there for us at every major milestone in my life, even remembering to call me on my 60th birthday.

How much we miss our dear friend, Dara! - and was a true friend, indeed. We enjoyed many fun trips together as couples and with our families. He took personal interest in those around him and both advocated and supported us as Fari navigated through his health crises.
