DAVID ZULLO

ZULLO David Frank Zullo (Age 76) Passed away at his home in Lake Monticello, Virginia on Friday, June 8, 2018 surrounded by family. He was born on April 2, 1942 in Garfield Heights, Ohio to Connie and Dominic Zullo. He married Chris Zullo on June 27, 1964 and together they raised four boys in Poolesville, Maryland. Dave was an honest, hardworking, loyal father who always brightened anyone's day with his ability to relate to those around him. He coached youth soccer for many years, and he and his wife were active supporters of the Poolesville community, to the degree the town named a street (Zullo Drive) in honor of their efforts and contributions. Dave and his wife loved to travel the world, discovering an affinity for Italy, its people, wine, cuisine and returned annually for many years, pursuing their family ancestry and accomplished dual citizenship. Dave, the "Olde Soldier" enlisted with the Air Force in 1961. Upon retirement he continued as a proud 20-year military veteran stressing the importance of country, politics and its reference to historical importance. He was a remarkable walking encyclopedia on military history. An avid reader, he was also a gifted writer with an ability to relate historical facts to every subject matter. Together, Dave and Chris owned and operated Olde Soldier Books, Inc. a memorabilia business comprising of historical and rare artifacts from around the globe. Many of the artifacts were comprised of American Civil War family relics and unique findings from every walk of life such as presidential autographs, documents, war letters and first addition books. He also published 50 Civil War books. Dave was also a fighter. The "Olde Soldier" bravely battled cancer for 14 years, his wife by his side every step of the way. Dave and Chris settled in historical Charlottesville, Virginia many years ago to enjoy a peaceful lifestyle of days filled with friends, golf, good debates and of course wine. He always cherished visits from his brothers Dale and Bob when they all would reminisce of days gone by. Dave Zullo "The Olde Soldier" is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Chris; sons, Tony, Tim, Todd and Tracy, and seven grandchildren. The celebration of his life begins at Thacker Brothers Funeral Home, Palmyra, Virginia at 2 p.m. Friday June 15, 2018. A luncheon is at 3 p.m. at the Fairway Club in Lake Monticello, all are welcome. An open house then occurs at the Zullo residence from 5 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials in honor of his name (Dave Zullo) may be made to the Lake Monticello Fire and Rescue.
