Dr. Donald Cornelius Roane

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Dr. Donald Cornelius Roane on March 10, 2025 after a long illness with Parkinson's Disease. Dr. Roane was a beloved family practice physician who reached the exalted age of 90. Born in 1935 in Baltimore to Philip Ransom Roane and Mattie L. Roane, Dr. Roane was a proud graduate of Douglass High School, Howard University and the University of Maryland School of Medicine as well as a veteran of the United Staes Air Force. He began his medical career as an ER Physician in Winston-Salem, NC and he continued his career in Annapolis, MD as a Family Practice Physician. Dr. Roane's practice was more than just a place of work. It was a sanctuary where patients felt heard, cared for and respected. He was known for his dedication to the people of the community and for his promotion of higher education for the young people. He was active with the Anne Arundel Community College, The Kunta Kinte Foundation and the Rotary Club of Annapolis. He was very proud of his perfect attendance as a Rotarian until he became ill.
He is survived by his daughters Shirley Bennett, Ransom Brooks (Gigi Roane) and son Philip R. Roane lll (Pablo); his brother Philip Ransom Roane, II; grandchildren Michelle Edwards, Cheryl Edwards, Korie Roane, Stella Roane, Charley Roane and Lucy Roane and several great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his sons Justin Carson Roane and Donald Cornelius Roane, II.
Dr. Roane's request to be cremated was granted and a memorial service will be held later; the date and time to be announced when determined.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to the Kunta Kinte Foundation or the Rotary Club of Annapolis in Dr. Roane's memory.
