Elin Margrethe Halvorsen  Morath (Age 93)  
Elin Margrethe Halvorsen was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, on January 9, 1922. She survived the German Nazi occupation of Denmark from 1939 to 1945. After the war, she served in the US Army's Civil Censorship Division in Esslingen, Germany, where she met her husband-to-be, who was on occupation duty. They were married in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1947 and she accompanied him on domestic and overseas tours including the American Embassy in Rome, Italy in the 1950's and Izmer, Turkey in the 1960's. After moving to Alexandria, Virginia in 1966, she attended the Northern Virginia Community College and then graduated from the National Institute of Real Estate in 1978 after which she obtained her State Realtor's License and worked with several local realty firms including Town & Country. Among her many hobbies, Elin enjoyed playing bridge and golf and was an avid pro golf fan. She died peacefully in her sleep at her home on June 1, 2015. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Retired Lieutenant Colonel Eugene Morath, a daughter, Patricia Hussey of Cartersville, GA, three grandchildren, Jason Parker, Nick Parker, and Kristin Parker, four great grandchildren in Georgia and Tennessee. In Denmark, she is survived by a nephew, Kjeld Halvorsen, a great niece, Anne Kjaer, and a great nephew, Bjorn Halvorsen. A Memorial Mass will be offered at the Queen of Apostles Catholic Church, 4329 Sano St., Alexandria, VA on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the ASPCA.
