Ella Toombs Obituary
DR. ELLA TOOMBS (Age 70)
Ella L. Toombs, M.D. of Fort Washington, MD, a pioneer in the field of dermatology who led a successful private practice in Dupont Circle for more than 25 years, passed away on May 21, 2022 after a prolonged illness.
Born on May 18, 1951 in Chicago, Ella was a graduate of the 1969 class of Loretto Academy. She received her bachelor's degree from Chicago State University and after a brief career with Upjohn Pharmaceuticals completed her earned here medical degree from The Ohio State University in 1981. Ella advanced her medical knowledge with residencies and fellowships at The Cleveland Clinic, Howard University Hospital, the Veterans Administration and the National Institutes of Health.
In addition to leading Aesthetic Dermatology Dupont Circle, Dr. Toombs had served as Assistant Professor of Dermatology at Rush University Medical Center, in Chicago, and as a reviewer for the Federal Drug Administration.
Dr. Toombs traveled the world extensively and combined her passions by giving frequent presentations at leading dermatology conferences in the US, Europe and Asia. Her expertise also led to many published articles, as well as television, radio and magazine interviews. She was a member of The Woman's Dermatology Association, American Academy of Dermatology, Washington DC. Dermatologic Society, and the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery.
Dr. Toombs is survived by her daughter Andito Lloyd and granddaughter Josephine Priestly-Sherrill, nieces Huetta Anderson and Ramona Toombs, nephew Raymond Toombs, Jr. and many other relatives.
She is preceded in death by her beloved mother Cleo Toombs; father Christopher Slaughter; brothers Raymond and Benjamin J. Toombs. Memorial services to be held at Holy Sepulchre Cemetary in Alsip, Ill. on September 24.

A wonderful and kind lady. I met her and her mom at her DuPont circle office in the 90s as a patient. Years later I acccepted a posiition with The Chicago Department of Public Health and we reconnected. I asked the commissioner to have her on his talk show and he did. I would see her on flights to Chi and she would save me a seat if she boarded before me. We would exchange text messages over the year about events that were happening. I regret not accepting her invitation to her housewarming after she retired. Condolences to the family. R.I.P Ella. You were loved!
