Fern Yudow Bekenstein (Age 82)
Fern Yudow Bekenstein died peacefully on Saturday, January 20 surrounded by family at the age of 82. She is survived by her loving husband, Dr. William Bekenstein; her five children, Susan (David) Cahn, Andrew Koch, Jane (Jon) Blank, David (Michelle) Bekenstein, Jon (Lori) Bekenstein; her 11 grandchildren Naomi Blank, Daniel (Samantha) Blank, Jordan Bekenstein, Jeffrey Cahn, Spencer Koch, Sara Bekenstein, Douglas Cahn, Lauren Koch, Joseph Bekenstein, Allie Bekenstein, Marc Bekenstein; her beloved sister Leslie (Leonard) Foxson, countless cousins, nieces and nephews, and her incredible circle of friends. A beloved member of our community, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, passionate teacher, and an avid volunteer. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 24 at 10:15 a.m. at Temple Rodef Shalom, 2100 Westmoreland St, Falls Church, VA 22043. Interment will follow at King David Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers please send donations to either the Inova Foundation: Bekenstein Lecture Series, Life with Cancer or Temple Rodef Shalom. May her memory be a blessing. The Bekensteins and the Josephs are more than very close friends. We consider one another as family. Growing up just a few houses down the street, we had an open door policy. Holiday dinner was a given. When I met Fern as a young teenager, she had me and my entire family at hello. She was one of the warmest women I´ve ever known. She exuded kindness and compassion, traits that can be difficult to find in this day and age. There was something so special about Fern. On behalf of the entire Joseph family, Sylvia, Eric (Amy, Ryan, Cameron, Casey and Sydney), Michele (Gary), we will miss her immensely. Sending all of the love in our collective hearts, Michele.

So sorry for your loss. Fern was always so love,y and gracious whether chasing us out of the house after we tried to give Mary a popsicle on sideburn to my debutante days and we were reacquainted to catching up with Andy thru life. She loved her kids and her husband and had a killer smile. Know she is up there trying to create peace in our world Claire
