Floyd Cecil Keene Jr., D.D.S.

It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life beautifully lived that we announce the passing of Floyd Cecil Keene, Jr. of Washington, DC (1931-2025) on April 24, 2025 after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. Floyd, a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, graduated from Virginia State College and Howard University College of Dentistry. A Virginia State hall-of-fame football star and military veteran, he practiced dentistry for over 60 years, earning respect for his expertise, dedication, and compassion. Renowned for his clinical expertise, Dr. Keene was deeply respected and admired by his patients. He was a longtime member of Calvary Episcopal Church and, in later years, Church of the Holy Comforter. Beyond his professional career, he assumed leadership roles across many organizations, including the Robert T. Freeman Dental Society, his church, and the Pittsburghers Club in Washington, DC, where he raised college scholarship funds annually. Floyd led with a unique balance of kindness and firmness and was a recognized role model for integrity and dedication to excellence. Known for his generosity and commitment to education, Floyd inspired and mentored those around him to strive for greatness.

He is survived by his wife, Sylvia White Keene; children, Donald (Kgomotso) and Linda; grandchildren; great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family members and friends. All who knew him will remember Floyd's legacy of leadership, discipline, altruism, and unwavering high standards. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
