FRANK SHIELDS Obituary


FRANK J. SHIELDS "Rusty"  
Passed away on Monday, January 9, 2017 at home. A service will be held at 12 Noon on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at Quantico National Cemetery. He earned a degree in electrical engineering from CCNY (City College of New York). He spent two years in the army, where he wired some of this country's first missiles. He attended George Washington University for his master's, with further study at Catholic University. He worked for Night Vision Lab at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, where he became the director of the lab. After his retirement from the Lab he worked for SAIC.He volunteered at Village West pool for many years, both on the board and for the swim team. His quick wit, easy laugh, and the twinkle in his eye will be missed by everyone who loved him and knew him.He is survived by his wife Noriko Shields; his sister Virginia Shields; his children Diane Noble, Brian Shields, Machi Shields, and Timothy Shields.In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Scholarship and Welfare Fund of Hunter College, 695 Park Ave., Room E1314,New York, NY 10065
