I learned how to lead Soldiers by sitting next to CSM Darling Friday mornings at Ft. McNair and taking to heart every word he said. My second favorite CSM in the world, after my dad.

Emerson said, " Make the most of yourself. . . For that is all there is of you." It is such an inspiration to read of this life well lived. May God comfort and abide with the Darling family as you mourn the loss of this great man. Such a legacy of commitment, service and honor.

Uncle Fred,
Thank you so much for being a part of my life. What wonderful memories I have from knowing you. From West Point, to Crofton, to Fairfax and DC. Not to mention all of the wonderful, so very funny stories of you and the Uncles' escapades. It was my pleasure to know you, to have grown up around you. I will always remember you and cherish the memories you helped create for me.
With respect, love, an ache in my heart and yet a smile on my face,

Wayne
