FREDERICK ALSTON FEARING

Retired Executive

FREDERICK ALSTON FEARING, 65, of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, died Friday, August 23, 2002 of pancreatic cancer. A native North Carolinian, he graduated from Louisburg College and received his B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After serving in the United States Army, working as a special agent for Naval Intelligence, he became Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of McGregor Printing Corporation in Washington, DC until he retired in 1997 and moved to Chapel Hill. Throughout the 1980's and 1990's, he was very active locally with Arena Stage and served as a member of its Board of Directors.

Mr. Fearing served on the Board of Trustees at Louisburg College. He was an avid Carolina supporter and chaired numerous boards and committees for the University of North Carolina.

Mr. Fearing was honored last December by the State of North Carolina for his outstanding citizenship and was made a member of the Order of the Long Leaf Pine.

Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Gail McGregor Fearing; a daughter, Robyn Owns; two granddaughters, Taylor and Elizabeth; his father and a sister. A memorial service was held at the University Methodist Chapel, Tuesday, August 27, 2002.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Fearing Jazz Scholarship, UNC Music Department, CB # 3320, Hill Hall, Chapel Hill, NC 27599-3320 or to the American Cancer Society.
