Ah dear Gary, just learned of your passing. Recently, I had been thinking of Marguerite and mentioned to a mutual friend that I hadn't talked with you in a long while. Bless you and all the kind, caring memories you left with others. What an example of service, love and generosity you and Marguerite offered to both the 4 legged and 2 legged! Your partnership brought a smile to many a face -- ya'll were unique and charted your own path. Always and forever (home).

Rest in peace to our father. Thank you dad for keeping us fed and a roof over our heads when we were young. Thank you for looking out for the four legged friends in the city. Your loss has left an emptiness in the city of Washington and the hearts of your four children and two grandchildren. With love...

I want to thank everyone who has taken a moment to comment on my father's page. It means a lot to his family. I will always remember my father as a compassionate person who lovingly took care of any stray he found. He (and Marguerite) are dearly missed. The testimony from his friends warms my heart. I am happy I was able to see what others had to say. Thank you!

Gary was my friend and neighbor. Always kind, always ready to help, always had time for a stop-in-the-alley-catch-up-chat. He and Maurgarite helped me with my cats and hey cared for all off the cats in our block and around the city as well. Two of his ferals became really close tome, and I fed them through two winters and made-up a warm place for them to sleep. Gary got me into doing this I gotLewis and Joseph them them as well. I experienced Gary as a kind, gentle soul filled with empathy and compassion. I knew how much he missed Maurgarite. Being alone and the"I-can't-really-believe-she's gone is on another plane of existence.f

Gary was my friend and neighbor. He was a good friend and I miss him. He and Marguerite were conscientious, kind people in a world where both are in short supply. Condolences to the family he loved dearly.

I knew Gary & Marguerite from the time they began their rescue work in 1994.
Marguerite had offered to help Joanna Harkin, of Alliance for Stray Animals & People. I told Joanna about some kittens in the alley across from where I lived nearby, and that was the beginning of a dedicated lifestyle for Gary & Marguerite.
I have such good memories of Marguerite finding homes for even dogs I rescued, most notably being an Akita, who picture I still have on my bulletin board.
I am glad to say that I was able to see and help Gary towards the end, when he was in the hospital briefly.
I am also glad to say that one of his favorite cats now has a great home with a fellow rescuer.
I was very concerned, upon seeing Gary's declining health, but being the 'cowboy' (as Marguerite was fond of calling him) he was, he kept up a strong appearance, having the care of his cats being a priority.
I had talked Gary into the need for a vacation, but unfortunately his health would not allow it.
Because of Gary's dedication, fellow rescuers are still working to maintain an outside colony Gary took care of.
May you rest in peace, dear Gary.
Your spirit lives on in your fellow rescuers, & the many animals you loved & took care of.
My condolences to the family of this one of a kind & irreplacable person.

My condolences to you Gary's family. I knew Gary through Marguerite, for many years. He was such a sweet and giving person, I was so happy my friend had found such a wonderful person to spend her later years with and help her so wonderfully through her long cancer ordeal. May God bless Gary and you his family. He was so proud of you all.

Good bye, Gary, we'll miss you, and your generosity and kindness. It was hard to lose Marguerite, and now you are gone too. So very sad. You did lots of good for the kitties, and we'll do our best to take care of the little friends you left behind. Best wishes to your family, as well.
