GARY MORTON WELSH

Gary Morton Welsh passed away on February 6, 2023 at the age of 75 due to complications from Parkinson's Disease, from which he suffered for ten years. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, with whom he shared 53 years of marriage and their three children, Matthew (Laura), Jeremy (Feray) and Amy. He was "Papa G" to five grandchildren, Avery, Everett, Ella, Owen, and Fallon. He is also survived by his older brother, David.

Gary was born on October 29, 1947, in Cambridge, MA and his childhood years were spent in Watertown, MA. He graduated magna cum laude from Harvard College in 1969 and earned a JD from Harvard Law School in 1972. His diverse career included work at First Chicago National Bank, the Federal Reserve Board, in the Senate on Capitol Hill, and at PricewaterhouseCoopers in banking regulation.

Some of his opportunities during those years were particularly memorable. As a young attorney working at the Fed, he was able to accompany the Vice Chairman to Europe for 2 weeks of meetings with senior bankers and trade association executives. Years later, while working at PwC, he traveled to China several times to offer assistance in banking regulation to the newly developing Chinese Central Bank. In addition, he greatly enjoyed adjunct teaching of international graduate students at Boston University's Morin Law Center for 13 years.

Gary retained a bit of his wonderful sense of humor even into the last months of life. The family is very grateful for the care Gary received from the caregivers while at Ingleside at King Farm and from JK House of Grace where he spent his final months.

Friends will be received at St. Raphael Catholic Church, 1513 Dunster Road, Rockville, MD 20854 on Friday, February 17 at 10:15 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Raphael's at 11 a.m. and will be available via livestream at https://straphaels.org. Interment will follow at All Souls Cemetery, 11401 Brink Road, Germantown, MD 20876.

February 16, 2023

I remember Gary with great fondness from the time that we both took violin in grammar school at L´Ecole Saint Jean L´Evangeliste in Newton. Gary was the best then, and remained the best as a husband, father, friend and colleague for the rest of his life. Ave, Atque Vale, Gary
