GEORGE DANIEL MERCER (Age 88)  
On August 8, 2012 at the Halquist Memorial Center in Arlington, VA. Dedicated husband for 46 years to Anita Sims, predeceased; and for 8 years to Isabell Gordan, also predeceased. George grew up in Washington, DC and graduated from Dunbar High School in 1941. He served in the Army during World War II. His greatest passion in life was his art. George held many artist positions throughout his career including Cartoonist for the Baltimore Afro-American newspaper and Technical Illustrator for Vitro Laboratories. As an artist for the United States Postal Service, nine of his designs were selected for individual stamps or postage on embossed envelopes. Some of his noteworthy designs were the 15-cent Uncle Sam's Top Hat embossed envelope and the 12-cent Freedom of Conscience "Torch" stamp. On Thursday, August 16, friends may visit with the family from 10 a.m. until time of service 11 a.m. at Marshall-March Funeral Home, 4217 Ninth St, NW. Interment Lincoln Memorial Cemetery.
