Geraldine Opsahl Obituary

OPSAHL

Rev. GERALDINE A. OPSAHL (Age 88)

Rev. Geraldine Opsahl received a BA from Minnesota's Concordia College, and taught music in Minnesota and at Alice Deal Junior High in DC. Her MA in Clinical Psychology enabled a counseling practice and Chaplaincy at MD Anderson Cancer Hospital in Houston. A Master of Divinity from Lutheran Seminary at Gettysburg led to a pastorate at King of Kings Lutheran Church in Fairfax, VA. Geri was an extraordinarily gifted preacher and insightful counselor, with singular ability to connect with a person's heart, mind, and soul. Her active life in retirement was interrupted by the onset of Parkinson's disease which claimed her life on April 26, 2022. Pastors Geri and Paul Opsahl were married in 1957. Their three children are: Kathryn Balettie (Roger) in Austin, Texas; Stephen Opsahl (Patricia) in Boerne, Texas; and LeAnn Opsahl in Sterling, Virginia. There are five grandchildren: Melanie White (Jarrett); Andrew Balettie (Liz); Matthew and Nicholas Opsahl; and Kiersten Lemke. There are three great-grandchildren: Cole and Madilyn Balettie; and Shiloh White. Service is at Community Lutheran Church, 21014 Whitfield Pl., Sterling, VA 20165, at 10 a.m., Friday, May 6. May you rest in peace and dwell forever in the paradise of God.
