Grozdanka Tzaneff, M.D., 77, died by the side of her daughter and son, on December 29, 2016. She was the daughter of Vlado Spassov Stankov and Vida Vladova Spassova.Born in Sofia, Bulgaria on December 6, 1939, Grozdanka was raised and educated in the capital of Bulgaria. She graduated from Sofia's Medical Academy and Higher Institute of Medicine in Sofia, Bulgaria in 1963 and became a doctor, living and working in different cities for nearly a decade.In October of 1969, Grozdanka married Steven Tzaneff and immigrated to the United States. Together they make a new life in Washington, DC. In January, 1977, Dr. Tzaneff successfully passes all of her U.S. medical examinations and becomes a doctor for the second time, beginning her medical career in the United States.Dr. Grozdanka Tzaneff did her postgraduate training and internship at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, MD and later served as an Anesthesiologist at several prominent hospitals in Washington, DC including Howard University Hospital, DC General Hospital, Fort Washington Hospital and Greater Southeast Community Hospital. It was from Greater Southeast Community Hospital that Dr. Tzaneff formally retired from her career in 2014, at the age of 75, after more than 40 years of service as a medical doctor.Dr. Grozdanka Tzaneff lived and worked in Washington, DC for nearly 50 years. She loved the area and her home. She was a generous sponsor and patron of the Kennedy Center, where she attended many operas, concerts and musical performances. Dr. Tzaneff also gave generously to a variety of charities in her community. Throughout her life, she was fond of the outdoors and enjoyed classical music, reading, travelled extensively and spoke different languages. She enjoyed all things joyous and colorful. Dr. Grozdanka Tzaneff is survived by her two children, Kristina and Yuri; and one granddaughter, Natalia Ana.A private memorial service will be held at Pumphrey Funeral Home in Bethesda, MD.
