SOLOMON, HENRY (Age 84)
Husband of Gail (Eager) Solomon of Chevy Chase, MD, died at Montgomery Hospice, Casey House on October 13, 2003.
Born in Winetka, IL, he was the son of the late Frank Solomon and Helen (Bloom) Solomon.
Mr. Solomon earned a BSME from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
He was a mechanical engineer for the DOD, U.S. Government.
Mr. Solomon was the President of the Bethesda Fire Department for 12 years and active member of the fire department for 40 years. He most enjoyed the hours he spent restoring an antique fire engine. Mr. Solomon enjoyed building things, photography and antique cars and steam trains. After retiring, he was an active volunteer at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History in the photo lab. He traveled the world extensively with his wife, including a recent trip around the world. Mr. Solomon served in the U.S. Army during WWII.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Gail; are, a daughter, Patricia (Solomon), wife of Chet Woodson, of Phoenixville, PA. A son, Robert M., husband of Alison Solomon, of Etters, PA; four grandchildren, David and Phillip Woodson of Phoenixville, PA and Matthew and Rachel Solomon, of Etters, PA. Mother-in-law, Jane Berger of Beechwood, OH; a sister, Elizabeth (Solomon) Birren; and a brother, Frank Solomon, Jr.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2003 at 3 p.m. at the Bethesda Fire Department, 6600 Wisconsin Ave., Chevy Chase, MD. Relatives and friends will be received on Saturday, November 1, 2003 from 2 to 3 p.m. at the fire department.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in his memory to the Bethesda Fire Department at the above address or to the Montgomery Hospice - Casey House, 6001 Muncaster Mill Rd., Rockville, MD 20855.
