IDA CHITE Obituary


IDA VANCE CHITE  July 18, 1922 - December 27, 2016  
Ida Vance Chite, of Silver Spring, MD passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 27, 2016. Mrs. Chite was born on July 18, 1922 in Hancock, MD and raised in Thurmont, MD by her great-aunt and uncle, Clarence and Sarah Lidie. A graduate of Thurmont High School, Ida moved to Washington, DC to pursue secretarial work. During that time she met her future husband, Frederic E. Chite of Washington, DC, and they were married on January 18, 1942. They remained married over 54 years.  A lifelong reader, Ida was a world traveler many times over through books with a special interest in Egyptology. Her passion for crossword puzzles especially The Washington Post and NY Times Crossword puzzles were legendary. Her knowledge of history, geography, world events was unparalleled. Ida converted to Catholicism prior to her marriage and was devout woman who was privately known to her family as an intercessory prayer warrior who prayed The Rosary daily. She will always be remembered as a gentle soul who was a friend to all. She was predeceased in death by her husband, Frederick, in 1997; infant son, David Vance; and sister, Elizabeth Agnes "Aggie" Widmayer; I. Virginia Trout, Isabel Neil Weller; Clarence Lidie. William "Bill' Lidie, She is survived by her children, A. Michael Chite of Owings, MD; Frederic (Andrea) E. Chite II of Damascus, MD; daughter, Virginia (Harold) Neil McNees of Portland, OR; grandsons, Ryan (Jessica) Chite of Frederick, MD, and Spencer Chite of Baltimore, MD; beloved niece, Ruby Trout of Myrtle Beach, SC; and many nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to attend a Roman Catholic Mass at St Paul's Catholic Church, 9240 Damascus Road, Damascus, MD 20872 at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 3, 2017. A reception will follow afterwards. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery on a date to be determined.
