JAMES ACKERMAN Obituary

JAMES ACKERMAN "Jim"
Passed away peacefully on March 15, 2021, age 74, at the home he shared with his son and grandson in Baltimore City, MD. It was a sudden heart attack and he had not suffered prior illness. Born November 11, 1946 in Oregon, where he grew up in Lakeview. He was a lifelong learner, had earned baseball scholarships, college educated and a wine expert. He was a leather-smith, women's hat restorer, thrift store sleuth, clothing textile ex-pert, professional commercial painter and author of eight books published on Amazon. He was a musician, played acoustic guitar, wrote many songs and was writing new songs until the end. His quick wit and dry sense of humor will be missed. He is survived by his sons, daughters, siblings, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and by a multitude of longtime friends. Services private. Contact March Funeral Homes, 1101 E. North Ave., Baltimore, MD 21202 for future events: [email protected], 410-727-3300, 888-727-3349.

I think about Jim a lot. He might have been the smartest person I´ve ever met and always treated me like a daughter. All I can say is I´m very grateful he came to visit me when he came west a few years ago. He promised he´d be back and his last words were I love you Liz. He´s always treated me as close as family. He is missed

Jim was a big part of my life as my roommate for 6 years. Like family. I´m sorry he was taken so soon

You would have loved to be in Sarasota for this
coming weekend. Dissension, revolt, insurrection - lots of discussion. Miss you Jim.

A loving friend with a brilliant mind. An artist, poet, and a man of all seasons. Farewtmy friend.

He was the “Ack-Man” in those days, or simply just “Ack.” He was the hobo harlequin who showed up at the dingy rented cottage a couple blocks from the U of O in Eugene. Jim knew my roommate from childhood in Lakeview, which is how he found our door. He slept on our reclaimed thrift store stained red couch until the school year ended. Jim enlightened us with stories of his explorations, of the physical and cosmic realms. It was as if a cowboy savant gifted with a higher consciousness had come for an extended stay. There was beer and cheap red wine in those extended symposia, but what got us high mostly was the workings of our young brains, and it was the Ack-Man, our interlocutor, who kept us going. Rest well good friend, until the next round.

I’m so sorry that Jim died. I have so many memories from back then. I’m so glad we had a long lunch with him 2 years ago and we caught up on everything. My condolences to his family.

James, may all souls you find in Heaven have musicality! I love you too, my dear friend.
