Died January 1, 2004 at Fairfax Hospital following a long illness. Boyle, born in Boston, MA, was a plasterer, who rose to the position of Business Agent of Local 10 of the Operative Plasterers Cement Masons International Association (OPCMIA) and assumed a leadership role as Executive Vice President in the International's Union Headquarters in Washington, DC. His professional life was noteworthy because he held the record for successfully arguing more than 900 jurisdictional disputes, the AFL-CIO internal arbitration system. In addition to his record number of cases won, Boyle was known for his meticulous attention to detail and brilliant strategy. Boyle served in the Navy in the Pacific in WWII. While residing in Boston, Boyle was awarded numerous citations from city and municipal leaders for his many contributions to the community. His family relocated to Falls Church, VA, so that he could assume his leadership position with the International. A member of D.C. Friends of Ireland, the V.F.W., the C.F.W. and the Knight of Columbus, Boyle lived a life of civic duty and passion for family. Boyle is survived by his wife of 61 years, Irene; his seven children, James Jr., Maria, Francis, Michael, June, Suzanne and Karen; three daughters-in-law, two sons-in-law, 15 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Bill; as well as many other Boston relatives.
