James Martin Obituary

MARTIN, JAMES "Jimmy"

April 28, 1936 - November 24, 2001

Suddenly on November 24, 2001 at his home. Devoted father of Maurice, Keith and Veronica Jones and brother of Sharone Downing. He also leaves four grandsons and three granddaughters. Jimmy, a lifetime resident of DC, was raised by Dewey and Mabel Martin. He was very active in community relations in the Rosedale area of N.E., an accomplished guitarist and musician, a swimming and karate instructor, a lifetime member of the Underwater Adventure Seekers (scuba dving club), and the D.C. Wheel-Kickers (D.C. karate organization). Both organizations won National Championships with Jimmy as a significant member. In conjunction with the scuba and karate activities, Jimmy preformed in natiownide karate exhibitions and international scuba diving endeavors. He was also a "roadie" with the Bobby Felder Band, an airplane and auto mechanic and a member of a national auto racing team.

He is remembered by cousins, Benjamin Martin Metz, Connie Perdreau and Curtis Martin.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 1 at SNEAD'S FUNERAL HOME, 5732 Georgia Ave., N.W,, Washington, DC.
