Commander James Michael Webb U.S. Navy (Ret.)

Commander James Michael Webb (U.S. Navy, Retired), of West Melbourne, Florida, passed away peacefully June 5, 2023 at his daughter's home in Annandale, Virginia.

Born July 18, 1940 in Bismarck, North Dakota, to Edna Barbara and Philip Ritchey Webb, Jim graduated from St. Mary's Central High School (Bismarck, ND) in 1958 and St. John's University (Collegeville, MN) in 1962.

After a brief period as an employee and stockholder in the start-up company Dakota Data Processing in Bismarck, Jim enlisted in the United States Navy Candidate Program in the fall of 1963 and was commissioned Ensign, Supply Corps, U.S. Navy Reserve in August 1964. Joining the U.S. Navy allowed Jim the opportunity to serve his country and travel the world. While serving in the U.S. Navy, Jim also met and married his wife, Linda Suzanne Adams, and fathered three beautiful daughters.

During his years in the U.S. Navy, Jim served on the Staff of Commander, Cruiser Destroyer Force, U. S. Pacific Fleet, San Diego, California from March 1965 through April 1965; Supply and Disbursing Officer in USS Hooper (DE 1026), San Diego California from May 1965 through March 1967; Student, Submarine School, US Naval Submarine Base, New London, Connecticut, April through September 1967; Supply Officer in USS Ethan Allen (SSBN 608 (B)) Newport News, Virginia and New London, Connecticut from October 1967 through April 1969; Assistant Supply and Fiscal Officer, US Naval Submarine Base, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii with additional duty as Supply Officer, Submarine Squadron One and Submarine Flotilla Five from May 1969 through December 1970; Assistant to the Assistant Plans Officer for Logistics, Undersea Long Range Missile System (ULMS) Project Office (later renamed TRIDENT System Project), Washington, DC from July 1972 through August 1975; Assistant for Plans, Programs and Logistics, Submarine Logistics Division, Submarine Directorate, Naval Sea Systems Command from September 1975 through August 1978; Supply and Relocation Officer, Submarine Squadron Sixteen, Rota, Spain and Kings Bay, Georgia from September 1978 through June 1980; Freight Terminal Director, Naval Supply Center Charleston from July 1980 to July 1980; Comptroller, Naval Supply Center Charleston, South Carolina from July 1980 through May 1984.

After retiring from the U.S. Navy in 1984, Jim settled his family in Northern Virginia, right outside Washington, DC. He worked for AmSEC, TRW Inc., and RGS Inc., while caring for his family. Jim retired from the regular working life in December 2000 and relocated with Linda to West Melbourne in 2002 to enjoy retired life. Jim loved living in Florida, where he could wear his sandals every day. Jim and Linda regularly attended mass and volunteered at their church, lunched with family and friends, visited the ocean and watched the tides, and swam in their pool.

Jim is pre-deceased by his wife Linda Suzanne Adams Webb, brothers John Norman Webb, William Paul Webb, Philip Robert Webb, and Francis Oliver Webb and sister Margaret Almena Webb Witucki. Jim is survived by daughters Jamie Lynn Webb Kennedy (Robert Kennedy), Felicia Suzanne Webb, and Laura Elizabeth Webb and grandchildren Anna Lynn Kennedy and William Francis Kennedy.
