JANICE IRENE BARNES  
Janice Irene Barnes was born January 7, 1941 in Hegins, PA and passed away unexpectedly on October 26, 2018 at Inova Fairfax Hospital from a pulmonary embolism. Jan graduated the Reading Hospital School of Nursing in Reading, PA as a Registered Nurse. After nursing school, she moved to Washington D.C where she held a long nursing career at Washington Hospital Center, Red Cross, Inova Fairfax, and the Fairfax Health Department. Faithfully serving her country, Jan joined the Air Force Reserves as a flight nurse in the late 1960s. As an active 41-year member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Springfield, VA, Jan participated in Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America groups and became a Stephen Minister. Jan was generous of spirit and strong in faith, quick to volunteer help to those in need. She was devoted to her family and church, taking special pride in her granddaughter Kara.  Jan is survived by her husband, Edward Barnes; daughters, Lori and Kristen Barnes; granddaughter, Kara Barnes; brother, Bruce Huntzinger and sister-in-law, Evelyn, cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Clark and Erma Huntzinger; brother Edmond Huntzinger and sister-in-law Mary. Jan will be remembered as a loving and generous wife, mother, grandmother, neighbor and friend.  A memorial service will be held at St. Mark's Lutheran Church located at 5800 Backlick Road, Springfield, Virginia 22150, on Saturday, November 10 at 11 a.m. with a luncheon reception following in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, those inclined may make donations to the St. Mark's Stephen Ministry program.
