Jean Ann Kitchen Hardison

Jean Ann Kitchen Hardison of Vienna, Virginia passed away peacefully on February 2, 2023 at the age of 85. Beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and sister, Jean was born on August 31, 1937 to the late Alvin and Katherine Kitchen. She graduated from Fairfax High School in 1955 and earned a bachelor's degree in history and business administration from James Madison University in 1959. Jean went on to get her teaching certificate from the University of Richmond and taught business math and accounting at LaPlata High School in Maryland. She married Glenn Hardison in June of 1961 and raised four children; Doug Hardison (Kelley), Kate Flaherty (Phil McGehee), Christy Meade, and Amanda Hardison. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Michael, Lindsey and Hayley Hardison, Sean Flaherty, and Josh and Grace Meade as well as one great grandson, Atticus. Jean worked as the office manager for a British defense contractor, C&S Antennas from 1987 to 2007 before retiring. Over the years, she stayed connected to her community through service including volunteering at the Oakton Methodist Church, serving as a facilitator for Parents Without Partners, and was a lifetime member of the Moose Lodge. Jean was independent and a life-long learner who enjoyed politics, history, traveling, art, and dancing. Jean was loved dearly by her family and leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories. Her memorial service will be held at Oakton United Methodist Church on February 25, 2023. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to the American Heart Association.

She was one of my dearest friends, both in la Plata, when teaching, then in Richardson. I frequently came to DC and she would pick me up at airport etc. I miss her lovely C cards too.

It was with much sorrow I learned of Jean's passing yesterday. Have many wonderful memories of her friendship from first grade thru first year of college. We were happy to have Jean as a bridesmaid in our wedding in 1958. Paul and I send our condolences to the family. A special person has entered Gods Kingdom,
