Jeanette Dibble Obituary

Jeanette Campbell Dibble, lovingly known as "Netta" by family and friends, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2024, at the remarkable age of 95. Despite her sudden departure, she was in excellent physical and mental health, eagerly anticipating an upcoming family vacation to Hilton Head, SC.

Born in Dayton, Ohio, on February 25, 1929, to Dr. Earl and Hortense Campbell, Netta was the youngest of three. Early on, she was known for both her beauty and her brains. Her academic journey began at Ohio State University before transferring to Wellesley College, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1950. She went on to earn a Master of Science in Nursing through Yale's School of Nursing. Netta dedicated her career to pediatrics, working in public school settings and community clinics serving low and middle-income families.

Netta's life took a new direction when she met Eugene H. Dibble III, affectionately known as "Big Gene." They married in 1955, and their family quickly grew with the birth of their first child, Rochon, followed by
Chyla, Eugene, Andrew, and Hillary. As a devoted wife and mother, Netta always prioritized her family's needs and well-being. During the early years, the family resided in Chicago, surrounded by a large extended family.

When retirement neared, Gene and Netta moved to Maryland. They made a home in Leisure World in Silver Spring, Maryland, and quickly reconnected with family and old friends while creating a host of new friendships. Jeanette remained devoted to Gene until his passing in 2014.

Not one to stay idle, Netta took great joy in exploring all her community's activities. She quickly became a vibrant presence in her community and was loved by all who knew her. Netta enjoyed living an active lifestyle, attending community meetings at Leisure World, participating in book clubs, volunteering at her church, and enjoying meals with family and friends. She loved challenging herself with bridge, maintaining her piano skills, and staying up to date with local and national events by reading voraciously. She especially enjoyed Sunday golf outings with her children and her brother-in-law, Bobby, where driving the golf cart brought her great delight. Known for her generous spirit and zest for life, Netta often volunteered to chauffeur her friends on errands and to events. She was a gracious hostess who greeted guests with a warm smile and a bottle of wine. And last but not least, she was happy to be the last person on the dance floor whenever given the chance.

Netta was a cherished mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who loved creating lasting memories with her loved ones, especially if it involved travel. She is survived by her four devoted children, Thomas J Baltimore, Adriene D. Dibble, eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild, an extended family, and a wide circle of friends who will deeply miss her warmth, laughter, and spirited personality.

A memorial service to celebrate Netta's extraordinary life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to St. Matthew's Presbyterian Church,4001 Bel Pre Road, Silver Spring, Maryland.

Jeanette was a wonderful friend to me. I came to know her through her friendship with my mother Louise. She was a life long friend of Netta's sister Lillian. When she moved to SS, MD they connected and we all found we shared a love of reading. Netta and I would sometimes talk books, and share titles of interest. When my mother passed, Netta was kind enough to include me in some of her family's holiday events, and I so appreciated their welcome and kindness. I will miss her dearly and send sincere condolences to the family.

Jeanette was one of the first persons I met when I started at the University of Illinois Hospital in 1986. She was one of the most friendliest and caring to all of her patients and colleagues.
