Jeanne Sinkford Obituary

Dr. Jeanne Craig Sinkford, the first woman dean of an American dental school, died peacefully at home on October 1, 2025, surrounded by her children. She was 92 years old. Dr. Sinkford leaves behind a legacy of love and care. She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Dr. Stanley M. Sinkford, Jr., and her parents Richard and Geneva J. Craig. Left to cherish her legacy are her three children, Dianne S. Sinkford; Janet Sinkford Jones (Burnell); and Dr. Stanley M. Sinkford, III (Kimberly), granddaughters, Zoe G. Sinkford and Nina N. Sinkford, sister, Janet C. Archer (the Late Fred D. Archer, Jr., D.D.S.); sister-in-law, Madeline Sinkford Greene (Ret. Judge William P. Greene, Jr.); cousins Thornell Jones; Annette L. Williams; Stephanie Williams and Irene V. Ball; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. She was beloved by family, friends, and colleagues, and will be greatly missed. Services for Dr. Sinkford will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a date to be determined. Sincere Condolences !!!!!
I was well aware of Dr. Sinkford's historical career as Dean of Howard University College of Dentistry. However, I did not meet her until 1995 after I became Dean at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, and joined the American Dental Education Association (ADEA) Council of Deans. She was an Associate Director at ADEA and highly respected by all. Her wise advice, and support
assisted in my career development. I will always remember her how intelligent, energetic, motivational, and dedicated she was in advancing the careers of others, dental education, and healthcare for all.
My prayers are with the family.
