JEROME BERNSTEIN

On Sunday, January 22, 2023, JEROME BERNSTEIN of Audubon, PA, formerly of Santa Fe, NM and Washington, DC passed away. He was the beloved husband of Susan Smith Bernstein, devoted father of Dr. Eric (Dr. Mindy Schuster) and Matthew (Hannah Bloom) Bernstein, dear grandfather of Ali, David, and Kayla Bernstein and Isaac and Rivka Bloom. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 29, 2023, 10 a.m. at Judean Memorial Gardens Chapel, Olney, MD. The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, January 28, 2023, 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Arrangements entrusted to TORCHINSKY HEBREW FUNERAL HOME, 202-541-1001.

I´m late to the game here in learning about Jerome´s passing but that doesn´t diminish the immense impact he had on my life as a therapist, teacher and mentor...What a blessing he has been for so many of us.

I just found out that jerry died in Jan and was so sad to learn of the news. I spent 10 years with Jerry´ as my mentor and therapist. He was a man of integrity and honor that modeled for me how to claim myself as a young man. Jerry helped me with my Vietnam experiences , and trusted us to act out some of my violent dreams. He helped me come to peace with my demons through our analytic work together. Jerry and Susan came to my marriage with Nancy and will forever be a part of our lives. I often think of Jerry and Susan and sometimes just pass by his house on Jonquil street to remember our times together. I am forever indebted to him and wish his family well in life. I am a Jungian analyst in Poland and I am currently working on the translation of Dr. Bernstein's book into Polish (Living in The Borderland). A seminal book.
It is with great sadness that I have just read about his passing. I've never met him in person but over the years of reading, listening and letting myself be deeply inspired by what he had to say, I have come to hold a great respect for him as a person of wisdom and great spirit, and with a sense of genuine humane decency in the same time. A beautiful soul. My sincere condolences to Dr. Bernstein's family.
