Jitka Byroade Obituary
Jitka D. Byroade
Jitka Byroade passed away peacefully at Ingleside of Rockcreek in Washington, DC on November 30, 2022 with family by her side, she was 98 years old. She was born on August 27, 1924 to the late Marie and Jan Donda in Bratislava. In keeping with her Czech heritage, she moved to Prague, Czechoslovakia in 1938 after the German invasion. She later met Army lieutenant John Henson, who was stationed in Pilsen and they married in 1947. During his military career they lived in Japan, France and Afghanistan and had two sons, John and Mark Henson.
Jitka later remarried Ambassador Henry A. Byroade and had daughter, Linda (Kosiorowski), stepsons Gene, Alan and Jon. Their Diplomatic life led them to live in Burma, Philippines, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. Upon retirement, they resided in Potomac, Maryland until the passing of her husband Henry.
Jitka was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who lived an extraordinary life. She will be greatly missed. She is survived by son John (Lee), daughter Linda (Brian), stepson Alan, seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Service and burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
