JOAN LOUISE MACK OLIVER (Age 87)
Joan Louise Mack Oliver, born March 6, 1938, in Lynchburg, Virginia, passed away on July 30, 2025, at Doctors Community Hospital in Lanham, Maryland. She is survived by her son Andre Oliver, daughter Catherine Oliver-Garcia, grandson Ahmad Garcia, and a community of friends and family, including those of her loving husband of 51 years, Jesse S. Oliver, who passed in 2016. Joan's rich life centered on the values of education, faith, resilience, and the indelible bonds of family and lifelong friendships. Her career included serving as an administrator at the University of the District of Columbia, and a substitute teacher for Prince George's County Schools. She was also a devout and longstanding member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Washington, DC. Joan was cremated under the direction of McGuire Funeral Service, in Washington, DC. Her life will be celebrated in a private memorial service led by The Reverend Thomas L. Bowen of Shiloh Baptist Church on August 30, 2025. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the General Scholarship Fund of Shiloh Baptist Church (in memory of Joan Oliver) at www.shilohbaptist.org/give.
