JOANNE ERICKSON Obituary
JOANNE ERICKSON (Age 57)
Of Ellicott City, MD, died Sunday, June 24, 2012 of breast cancer in Columbia, MD. Born in Burns, OR to Ray and Helen Erickson, she is survived by fiancé, Samuel Wilderson; father, Ray Erickson; brothers, Tom, David and his son Sam Erickson, and scores of devoted friends. She graduated from Paint Branch High School in 1973 and later Cum Laude, with a B.A. in English from Frostburg State University. She was Continuing Education Coordinator of Marketing at Howard Community College for 12 years. An informal reception will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, August 4 at 109 Apple Grove Rd., Silver Spring, MD. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Joanne's name to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. A passionate lover of nature, Joanne will be remembered for her generosity, hearty laugh and lust for life.

I was so sorry to see Joanne's obituary in the Washington Post. I remember her fondly from Pine Spring Elementary School. She was very kind and compassionate. Deepest sympathy to her family. Rest in peace, Joanne.

I met Joanne in 1969 when we started high school in Burtonsville, MD. We had many classes together and hung out in the same crowd until we all went to different colleges. She was a lot of fun in those high school years, but what always attracted me to her was her wit and sensitivity to issues regarding world peace. We were definitely young activists. I do remember going down to DC to hear Jackson Browne and other artists perform supporting peace and the environment.
I am a breast cancer survivor myself and it saddened me to know she died due to the disease. My wish is for her family, fiance and friends to hold her in their hearts with the memory of her as vibrant and fun. Thoughts and prayers coming your way.
