John Henry Chaney Sr. (Age 104)
Peacefully passed away on Monday, January 22, 2024, at his home in Oviedo, FL. Henry was born on December 4, 1919, in Clarksburg, MD to the late Asa and Mary Chaney. Henry started working at a very young age and was drafted into the United States Marine Corps in 1943. He served with the 8th Ammunition Company, where he hauled ammunition to the front line during WWII. In 1945 he served at Iwo Jima where the Marines' famous raising of the flag took place. He received a Congressional Gold Medal for his part in desegregating the Marine Corps. He leaves many fond memories for his family and friends to cherish. The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 8, 2024, at Cedarbrook Community Church, 23700 Stringtown Rd., Clarksburg, MD from 11 a.m. until the funeral service at 12 noon.
