I worked for General Cushman as a young officer, just back from Vietnam in 1968, when i was placed in charge of the headfquarters building at Ft Devens. Gen. Cushman was impressive, energetic, solicitous of the people who worked with him, an inspiring leader, always willing to listen if he thought a good idea might be forthcoming.
Everything I learned about leadership in business I learned from my commanding officers in the Army, and General Cushman was probably the most influential. We need leaders like him in this country. He will be missed.

You were a great Bde commander in Vietnam 1968. I was your scout Plt leader from A troop, 3d 5th Cav, 9th Inf Division; together we saved a lot of lives around FSB Bastogne Mar 1968. In 1971-2 you were IV Corp commander advisor; I was your scout tactical advisor in the CORPS TOC; I did most of your daily briefings.
God bless your family

GEN Cushman was a wonderful man. My father was a classmate so I knew him for a long time. I especially knew him for later part of his life. Lots of good memories. My thoughts and prayers go to his family and friends.

General Cushman was a great soldier, a profound military thinker, innovator and pioneer. His work in advancing Army aviation, introducing operational research methodology into Army planing and analysis, and reforming Army leadership education and training helped shape our modern Army.
I am proud to have known him.

I served under General Cushman's command of Fort Devens Post in 1969 immediately following my graduation from Fort Belvoir, OCS as a 2LT. In 1970, we connected again in Vietnam, and again in 2014 during a visit at Knollwood when I had the pleasure of meeting his wife, Nancy. During his distinguished military career, he added much value to Army command methodology and tactical leadership. May he rest in peace. My heartfelt condolences to his family, Tom Dilatush, Kinnelon, NJ.

It was my good fortune to assist the General in preparing his address to the Military Operations Research Society on Wargaming in Korea and to learn from him first hand what super soldiering is all about. His MORS pamphlet is a legacy to all who serve. We will miss his wisdom and wise council. Condolences to the Family. MWG

My thoughts are with the family. I remember this larger than life soldier, from 50 years ago just prior to our deployment to Vietnam with the 101st Airborne, 2nd Bde. Two years ago when our platoon got together for the first time in 48 years, General Cushman sent a heart felt letter that was read to all in attendance.

My sympathies to the family of this lovely gentleman who indeed had a long and busy life. I remember him fondly at morning Mass at St. Mary's Church in Annapolis when they lived around the corner. Always a cheery Irish twinkle in his eyes and may he rest with the angels. Barbara MacLeod
