There are no riches that can replace the love of a father who brought handcrafted doll cribs to his toddler daughters at Christmas, found time to play duets on the piano, and provided so much for his family. A great father, husband to my mom, grandfather, and great-grandfather are treasured today and eternally.

I'd like to share two memories of Mr. Dougherty in hopes that this may provide some comfort to Mrs. Dougherty, their children and family. The first was when I was 8 during our family vacations at Sandbridge Beach. I was floating on an inner tube way out in the ocean. Didn't know how I was going to get back to shore. A little scared to say the least. Mr. Dougherty swam out and got me. Seemed like he swam forever to rescue me. The second memory was on our way to the Army Navy game, probably back in 1968. My grandfather came with us since my dad ruptured his Achilles tendon weeks earlier. We drove in an old school station wagon with a 3rd seat in the rear. John III, a friend of his (Mike Klaus's older brother, I believe), and me played tackle in the back seat all the way up. One of us would try and dive into the 3rd seat from the middle, with the other two trying to prevent the "touchdown". How we didn't cause an accident I'll never know. Mr. Dougherty never said a word. Rest in peace, Mr. Dougherty. You a fondly remembered, sir.
