John J. Koback

John J. Koback, formerly of Silver Spring, MD, passed away on April 4, 2023, at the age of 95 in Hernando, FL. He was preceded in death by Sira (Giancoli) Koback, John's wife of 72 years. He is survived by his children Patricia Coggins (Troy), Johanne Moyes (Jeremy), John A. Koback (Peg), Clifford Koback (Donna), Mary Holmes (Tim); grandchildren Amanda, Katelyn, Tyler, Chad, Tyler Clark, Jesse; great grandson Levi.

John was born in Mahanoy City, PA on February 14, 1928, to John M. and Mary Koback. John graduated from Mahanoy City High School and enlisted in the United States Navy shortly after graduation. He served at the US Naval Training Center in San Diego, CA and in Tsingtao, China. John married Sira, his "Tweety", in 1950. John started his career working as a full-time bookkeeper and accounting assistant. John strived to always provide the best life he could for his family. While he and Sira were raising five children, he worked full time, attended night school, and pursued degrees at Benjamin Franklin University in Washington, DC. John earned a bachelor's and master's degree of Commercial Science, with his focus on accounting. In 1965, John passed the CPA Exam. He launched an accounting practice specializing in small business and established an office in Silver Spring, MD. John sold his successful accounting practice and retired in 1990. John and Sira moved to Leisure World in Silver Spring to enjoy their retirement. Golf was always a big part of both of their lives, but especially for John. On a shelf in his home, sat a trophy memorializing his coveted hole-in-one. In 2018 John and Sira bought a home in Florida, overlooking the golf course in the neighborhood where both their daughter, Johanne, and their son, John, lived.

John was a member of the Rosensteel Council Knight of Columbus, and the Rotary Club of Silver Spring, where he served as president. For a few years John taught evening classes in accounting at Montgomery College in Rockville, MD. As a former member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, and later Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, both in Silver Spring, MD, John served as an usher on Sunday mornings and in a variety of ministries. The Bishop of the Archdiocese of Washington recognized John and Sira for their parish service. John volunteered his skills and time serving on the Board of Directors, and several committees within the Leisure World Corporation.

John was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. He was always the protector, unwavering in his love for his family. There was no end to his generosity, time, advice and support he provided to his family.

Condolences Johanne and family. I have fond memories of all of you while you were at St. John's. I remember when you moved to Silver Spring where I visited. I have sometimes wondered where you went from there. Great family. So sorry for the loss of your Dad.
