JOHN H. LENFESTEY "JAY" (Age 49)
Of McLean, VA, died unexpectedly on Sunday, February 29, 2004. He will be remembered for his sparkling blue eyes, engaging smile, droll sense of humor, endless patience, and integrity. He was the son of the late John F. Lenfestey of Baltimore, MD. He is survived by his beloved wife, Judy Manhan of McLean, VA; his mother Katharine S. Lenfestey of Baltimore; his sister Marion W. Bernard of Defiance, OH; his niece, Samantha Bernard of Defiance, OH; his beloved pets, Hobbes and Mayno; and countless number of others whose lives he touched.
Born in Newton, MA on November 18, 1954, John spent his early childhood in Duxbury, MA. His family moved to Chappaqua, NY, for some years and then to Toledo, OH, John attended Ottawa Hills High School. After graduating from Ottawa Hills High School in 1973, he moved to the Washington, DC, area to attend American University. He received a BA in Political Science in 1977 and his Masters in Public Administration in 1979. After a brief period at the Department of Agriculture, he joined the U.S. General Accounting Office in 1978 as an evaluator. During his career at GAO, John held a number of different assignments. In 1988, he switched from the evaluator field to the information technology field which turned out to be his true career passion. At the time of his death, John worked in GAO's Information Systems and Technology Services Group, where he was in charge of the GAO computer network which was is his pride and joy.
John was very active in his community, serving as President of the Stoneleigh Homeowner's Association for two terms. John will be remembered for his willingness to lend a hand to his neighbors as well as keeping an eye out for their safety. He also supported various organizations within the McLean area. He will be truly missed by his neighbors and community. He will be inurned in Duxbury, MA.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 13, starting at 2 p.m. at the EVERLY COMMUNITY FUNERAL CARE, 6161 Leesburg Pike, Falls Church, VA 22044, 703-532-5161. The family will be receiving friends starting at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the McLean Volunteer Fire Department, 1455 Laughlin Ave., McLean, VA 22101.

We only knew John through our daughter who lived next door and we're thankful for all he did for her over the years I know she and many other will dearly miss him. May God bless him, his wife and family until we meet in God's house.
