JOHN McCALEB Obituary

JOHN BERNARD McCALEB  "Jack" (Age 84)
Of Rockville, MD, passed away on Thursday, April 8, 2021. He is predeceased by his beloved wife of 61 years, Muffet, and by his parents, Mary and Dr. Lawrence B. McCaleb. He is survived by his four loving children, Kelley Edelblut (Bill), Kara Pittinger (Craig), Scott McCaleb (Meghan), and Shea Hilgartner (Andy); and 11 grandchildren, he adored, Bryn, Kendall, Christopher, Will, Tyler, Kate, Luke, Clare, Matt, Scotty, and Jake. He is also survived by his siblings, Eileen McCaleb Loome, Kathy McCaleb Boland, and Michael McCaleb, his brother, Richie, having predeceased him. A graduate of Blessed Sacrament School and Gonzaga College High School, Jack was inducted into Gonzaga's Athletic Hall of Fame. He proudly earned his degree in History from Georgetown University in Washington, DC. He took immense pride in his work at National Geographic and the accounting business he founded, John B. McCaleb and Associates, where he and his wife, Muffet, worked for more than 40 years. Jack took great pride not only in working with the many medical practices he advised in the greater Washington, DC area, he cherished the relationships he built with his clients, many of whom were close friends. Those who knew Jack best understood that he never met a stranger, and to him, life was one great punchline after another. He rarely had a serious moment. His greatest priority was his family. He coached the youth football, basketball and baseball teams of his children, and when they continued to high school and college, he never missed their games or activities. He truly loved his role as "Pop Pop" to his grandchildren, rarely missing a game or event. Jack was a man of simple pleasures, who cherished nothing more than an afternoon on the beach with his family, friends, and a Corona. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Aloysius Gonzaga Church, 900 North Capitol St. NW, Washington, DC, on Saturday, April 10 at 2 p.m. Private Interment at St. Gabriel Cemetery, Potomac, MD. Memorial contributions may be made to Gonzaga College High School of Washington (gonzaga.org) or the Alzheimer's Association (alz.org). www.COLLINSFUNERALHOME.com
