JOHN SKILLING Obituary

SKILLING JOHN CHAUNCEY SKILLING, M.D. John Chauncey Skilling, M.D. died at his home in Naples, Florida on November 6, 2013. Dr. Skilling lived and practiced medicine in the Bethesda/Chevy Chase, Maryland area for many years until he retired and moved to Naples in 2001. He was born August 20, 1933 in Baltimore, Maryland to the late John Edward and Marion Bernard Skilling. Dr. Skilling graduated from St. Albans School in Washington, D.C. in 1951 and from Princeton University in 1955. After graduating, he entered the U.S. Navy and served as a corpsman with the 3rd Marine Division at Camp Pendleton, California. He then entered Hahnemann Medical College, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and graduated in 1961 with an M.D. degree. He completed his internship and a residency program in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C. In 1966, Dr. Skilling entered private practice with S. Hazen Shea. In 1968, Dr. Skilling became a partner with doctors Dusbabek and Liverett (later expanded to include Drs. Erkenbeck, Kowalski, Fraga and Cooper), where he practiced until he retired. Dr. Skilling was dedicated to his patients and the practice of medicine. He delivered over 3000 babies in his career. He was a Diplomat of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. In both 1980 and 1981, he led a Georgetown University sponsored group of medical students to study and provide medical training in refugee camps in Thailand. He was a member of the Chevy Chase Club since 1967. He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Nancy Skilling of Naples, Florida; sons John Kennard Skilling of Salisbury, Maryland and James Curie Skilling of Richmond, Virginia; daughters Anne Lawrence Berney of Gaithersburg, Maryland and Sara Bernard Lachewitz of Frederick, Maryland; and six grandchildren, Katherine Skilling, Kyle and Grant Skilling, Jennifer Berney, Zoe and Emma Lachewitz. His sister, Nancy Skilling Littlehales died early in 2013. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2013 at 10 a.m. at The Little Sanctuary at St. Albans School, Wisconsin and Massachusetts Avenue, N.W., Washington D.C. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that expressions of sympathy be in made in the form of donations to the St. Albans Alumni Association, c/o David Steadman, St. Albans School, Mount St. Albans, Washington, D.C. 20016-5095.A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2013 at 10 a.m. at The Little Sanctuary at St. Albans School, Wisconsin and Massachusetts Avenue, N.W., Washington D.C.
