Mr. Taylor was one of the most amazing people I've ever known. For nearly two decades, he revealed the riches of the World War II collections to me, and even steered clients to me, when he thought I was the best person to assist them. Together with Robert Wolfe, former chief of Captured German Records, they literally tutored me in the arcana of newly declassified documents as well as ones long open but little used. Always a gracious luncheon companion, Mr. Taylor -- I never could call him John -- is truly one of the great treasures of American archives. I really didn't think he would ever retire - and he didn't! He remained active until his last day. May God grant him peace and rest at the last, and surely the Archives of Heaven have been awaiting with anticipation his arrival to sort them out!
