JON COUCH Obituary

COUCH JON COUCH Jon Couch, the steadfast leader and President of rand* construction corporation, known for his charisma and passion for both work and life, died on Friday, September 19, 2014, as the result of a private airplane accident in Alton, Virginia. He was 46 years old. Jon's mother, Francis Gene Couch, MD (retired), was the sole passenger and also perished in the accident. Jon was a man of many passions, from reading and collecting books, to building cabinetry in his own woodshop. He had an appreciation for and was a custodian of history through his love of antique cars and wooden boats, which he often cared for with his own hands and personally saw through meticulous refit projects. Jon's love of adventure led him to the ownership of multiple airplanes over the years and more recently, to a reconnection with a childhood passion for motorcycles. Jon learned to race motorcycles competitively, and organized and led a professional racing team to support racing endeavors for himself and for others. Jon was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He graduated from George Washington University and spent his early career in Hawaii before returning to Washington to work for rand* construction. Jon's professional affiliations include; the Young Presidents' Organization, the Federal City Council, the Economic Club of Washington, DC, the DC Real Estate Group, Leadership Greater Washington, The Washington Building Congress, the DC Building Industry Association, Associated Builders & Contractors, and the National Association of Industrial & Office Properties. Jon served as President for the DC Real Estate Group. He served on the Board of Directors at Greater DC Cares. Jon was honored by the Boy Scouts of America with a Character Under Construction Award and by the Building Design & Construction Magazine as a 40 under 40 Honoree. Jon is survived by his brother Lt. Commander Richard Zamberlan, USN (wife, Angel and two children, Rori and Chaz) of Annapolis, MD; and his uncles, John C. Couch of Menlo Park, CA and Richard A. Couch of Sault Sainte Marie, MI. A celebration of this extraordinary life will be held at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in the Theater Lab on Monday, October 20, 2014 at 3 pm.
