Dear Christian Gross and Gross Family: I read your moving tribute to your uncle in the Letters to the Editor, Foreign Service Journal, Christian. I was assigned to Maputo during the same time as your uncle and his fellow Marine, very honorable young men. Our encounters were not extensive, but I remember them fondly as they engaged my young son at the Marine House and, on two separate occasions, at the USAID pool. My son and I were on that fateful trip to the riverbank retreat. I can share more privately should you wish to reach out to me. I bid them farewell on the airport tarmac on their final journey back to the U.S. and their loving families. Thank you for sharing your memories in the Journal.
